Desk chair mat – carpeted computer rooms and chairs around roll-office do not work well together without some kind of firm surface mat on top of carpet for office chair. Plastic chair mats are only partially effective because wheels sink into leaving small cracks to roll back into plastic, and plastic mats are unsightly in domestic environment. This project presents a simple inexpensive way to make a carpet that is not only easy for office chairs to roll over, but that is also attractive and can be made to match surrounding furniture. Fit first two parts of interlocking floor. Place a piece of floor face up on a large table.
Place a drop of wood glue on matching edge of a second piece of soil. Interlock two pieces of screed, then align ends of two pieces of screed carefully before pressing down to lock into place. Place desk chair mat set face down on a flat surface. Using a straight guide, route interlocking edges off sides of assembly. Remove only material to remove exposed edges of interlocking. Use router to trim ends that extend from flooring pieces mounted on ends of floor assembly. Cut cutting edges of flooring pieces mounted on ends of set, removing a minimum amount of material.
Measure length of carpet of plastic floor without including tongue. Use this dimension to mark depth of mat that will be under office chair. Finish by marking pieces that are going to be eliminated. Desk chair mat can be used as it is. Provides an attractive hard surface. You may want to add optional molding around edge to help keep wheelchair from falling off carpet, and to protect your feet from edges of floor if you like to walk barefoot. Cut and bevel molding, and attach with Liquid Nails to floor carpet.
